PCD is typically bonded to a carbide substrate to create cutting tools. This structure gives the tools a combination of hardness and toughness, making them ideal for heavy-duty applications. The diamonds provide a sharp and durable cutting edge, while the carbide adds strength to withstand impacts.

PCD (Polycrystalline diamond) is a man-made synthetic material, this is composed for its extreme hardness and endurance. It is created by combining very very smallest diamond particles with a binder under high pressure and high temperature. This process forms a strong and densely packed structure that is much tougher than natural diamond alone.

What is (CBN ) PCBN Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride.

(PCBN ) Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride is a man-made synthetic material and they are commonly used in cutting tools for machining of ferrous materials. This is composed for its extreme hardness and endurance. Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) is the hardest and most abrasion resistant material known to man, next only to Diamond.

The manufacturing process and physical properties of PCBN are very similar to those of PCD, except that instead of graphite, boron nitride is the building block for CBN. Like graphite, boron nitride is subjected to high temperature and pressure in the presence of catalysts to form cubic crystals of various micron sizes. These crystals are then graded and sintered together with tungsten carbide as the substrate.

PCBN thermal conductivity has very higher then carbide & ceramics. CBN duering the machining has not soften at higher temperature up to 1000°C . CBN has the advantage of being completely chemically inert as well as retaining its strength and hardness at the cutting edge.

PCBN is ideal for CNC turning operations to produce precision-hardened parts with a highly polished surface. CBN/PCBN turning inserts are primarily used for high-speed machining of hard metals such as hardened steel, powdered metal, superalloys, and cast iron.

Finishing of quenching hard materials (hardness above 55HRC), they are usually by grinding method to finish, but with the PCBN development of cutting tool materials and lathe (especially CNC lathe) the improvement of the machining accuracy, replace the grinding with hard cutting to complete parts processing has become a new finishing way.
